The Yellow Wallpaper is probably the most famous of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's work. Based on her own life experience the short story highlights the restrictions placed on women in the early twentieth century, living under a patriarchal society. The narrator describes her torment as the yellow wallpaper aids her descent into madness.
